Item Upgrades: A Simple Definition
Path of Exile Item Upgrades The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading their performance. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes. Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands. Armor Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They boost the performance of the item that they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit. The amount of damage an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. But, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before. There are a variety of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item can get will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as shown in the table below. Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as identified by the “Magic” and “Hybrids” entries in the table below. Furthermore, some upgrades require a charge to use, which are indicated by the “Charges” entry in the table below. These charges are constantly updated or never expire depending on the upgrade. Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons. The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will greatly increase its defense capabilities but the wearer must be aware that putting more weight on it can drastically decrease its speed and agility. This is why it is typically not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces above +9, since the added defense is generally not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades needed. Weapons Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For instance an upgrade can enhance the damage caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a rifle that snipes. Certain firearms also have upgrades that enhance their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of weapon overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity to cause more damage) are two examples. The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade to apply. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain amount of monsters or bosses or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine. The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost of a set number of Bars. item upgrading required to complete an upgrade, the more expensive the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be less. In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your equipment and weapon sets was a bit different. Before you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific number of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to an increased level of rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset. This is still possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to stores and purchasing equipment that has low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the best tier of benefits and blessings. To improve their skills faster, most players will prioritise upgrading their weapons. In addition, players should consider upgrading the weapons they use with their teammates to increase their power as well. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will enhance its effectiveness when paired with experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali. Jewels Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, where you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a table. The higher the level of the jewel has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism. The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry. The Jeweler can create all tiers of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones which you must be at certain levels to gain. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the jewel once within an item of equipment. Utilizing more jewels in a movement can make it feel more comfortable and is typically done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to them. In addition to the above upgrades players can also get glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and are able to be swapped easily however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are like jewelry and can be upgraded at the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be taken out from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis or traits cannot be swapped, and can only be recovered by using an Upgrade extractor, or salvaging with Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage. Trinkets Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with many small, but beneficial, advantages. They are available in the starting area as loot or personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors as well as through doing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers, and found or purchased on the Trading Post. The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and only work with certain trinkets. These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the absence of good slots in the team or talent tree which are usually filled by the hero's best stats. A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, since it's generally more beneficial to upgrade one crucial stat than two subpar ones. Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the start of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand they will select a green or a pink ward, depending on the matchup. These choices can impact the hero's ability to manage the map. In addition to the items listed above, players will discover other trinkets in form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. They can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, like completing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss. These can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
